I have enjoyed a long and varied artistic career working in fashion, business, and fine art. While pursuing a degree in Fashion Design from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I independently developed and patented a novel method for producing decorative fabric. After earning my B.F.A., I began my career in the women’s fashion industry at I.B. Diffusion. I later founded and ran an award-winning company specializing in luxury dog apparel. In the summer of 2015, I began to explore a medium that was then novel to me: oil painting, with flowers as my primary subject.

I am inspired by light and its power to influence our perception of color and dimension, driving me to reimagine images of flowers as large-scale oil paintings many times larger than they appear in real life. The large format serves to draw out the complexity of color and interplay of light through the layering of the oil paint, highlighting the intricate vasculature of leaves and clusterings of petals made brilliant by the filtered sun.

My experience working for many years in textile and fashion design shapes the decisions I make around composition. I use various textures and materials to draw attention to different components of a single piece, creating interest in the background and foreground.
